May 17, 2007 -- Degree Controls, Inc. (DegreeC) has launched its HotSpotr system, designed for cooling troublesome data center hotspots.

May 17, 2007 -- Degree Controls, Inc. (DegreeC) has announced the general availability of its HotSpotr, billed as an easy-to-install system for cooling troublesome data center hotspots.

According to the company, the HotSpotr system works by supplying cool air preferentially to hot racks in a data center and exhausting the hot air directly back to the CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioner) that can handle the heating load best. By eliminating hotspots, the system is designed to eliminate equipment failure due to overheating, therefore increasing computer uptime and reducing the need to spend money on additional CRACs.

Currently, the Hotspotr is available in four models: HT-100 - always on under-floor air mover - $1,250; HT-300 - three-speed under-floor air mover - $1,850; HT-500 - thermostatically controlled under-floor air mover - $2,950; HT-700 - thermostatically controlled overhead air mover - $2,450.

Each HotSpotr unit will eliminate the hotspots in one to three racks. Units are shipped overnight with instructions and generally install in thirty minutes.

"HotSpotr is a cooling solution with a brain," says Eric Birch, executive vice president of DegreeC. "HotSpotr fulfills easy-to-install server cooling in today's high performance data centers."

According to a press release, corporations that have already developed an interest in HotSpotr include the Andover, Mass-based NaviSite, Inc., a provider of optimized IT services, which has already placed an order for two HotSpotrs for their San Jose facility and is currently using DegreeC's AdaptivCool, a networked cooling solution for data centers.

"We are pleased that DegreeC has decided to tackle the problem of hotspots," comments Jason Clark, data center design engineer at NaviSite, Inc. "DegreeC continues to take the lead in the area of data center efficiency, helping to ensure that mission-critical facilities can handle their heat loads, allowing us to achieve higher levels of density within our data centers."

DegreeC has partnered with NER Data Products, Inc. to assist in accelerating the sales and exposure of HotSpotr. "We are delighted to be working with DegreeC," remarks Rob Huttemann, vice president of NER Technology Solutions. "In the last few months, we've seen a huge demand for a solution to eliminate hotspots in the data center. Our most sophisticated customers like this easy-to-install, inexpensive solution from DegreeC."
