IBM pairs with Emerson Network Power on portable modular data center offering

The collaboration involves the integration of Emerson Network Power precision cooling and power products and services with IBM’s Portable Modular Data Center.

December 9, 2009 --Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) announced that it is one of the companies collaborating with IBM to meet the rising demand for energy efficient data center capacity.

IBM is strategically partnering with technology leaders such as Emerson Network Power to help customers expand their operations more efficiently through the use of modularized data centers. As part of the collaboration, IBM is working with Emerson Network Power to integrate its power and precision cooling products and services with IBM’s Portable Modular Data Center (PMDC).

IBM says its PMDC provides a fully functional data center in a shipping container with a complete physical infrastructure including power and cooling systems and remote monitoring. The company says the system can be shipped and deployed into any environment, enabling clients to install a data center in any remote location or employ a temporary data center solution. It also can be used as a mobile solution for disaster recovery, disaster avoidance and other mobile needs. The modular offering has the ability to set up virtually anywhere, provided there is access to water, electricity and telecommunications.
