9. Modified military drone spies on WiFi users

Jan. 1, 2011

Another video clip available on YouTube shows a test flight of what is called WASP - Wireless Aerial Surveillance Platform. Originally reported by CNET from the Black Hat security conference in August, WASP is an unmanned aerial vehicle that can spy on WiFi users.

CNET's Declan McCullagh reported that at Black Hat, WASP's developers added to the drone "a payload of wireless sniffers and network-cracking tools." The report quoted one of the developers as saying, "We can identify a target by his cell phone and follow him home where enterprise security doesn't reach. We can reverse engineer someone's life."
