Commercial, residential AV wall plate kit swaps in Cat5e/6 for HDMI cabling

March 9, 2011
From MuxLab, the kit supports 1080p video up to 150 ft via pre-existing copper twisted pair cabling.

MuxLab (Montreal, Canada), designer and manufacturer of security video and audio-video connectivity products for use with copper twisted pair wiring, has announced the latest addition to its AV connectivity portfolio: the HDMI Econo Plus Wall Plate Extender Kit (500401-WP-US/UK).

Developed for the custom residential and commercial AV market, the kit allows one HDMI cable to be replaced by two (2) Cat5e/6 twisted pair cables. According to MuxLab, the product allows pre-existing twisted pair to be used instead of costly single-use HDMI cable, thereby allowing HDMI equipment to access the structured cabling system for greater maximum investment return.

The product also has a “No Power” mode allowing it to be used without external power in applications where AC power is not accessible.

The HDMI Econo Plus Wall Plate Extender Kit includes one transmitter, one receiver, one power supply and comes with a two year warranty. The product complies with HDMI 1.3a and FCC Class A standards. The kit is intended to streamline cabling in applications such as: home theatre, digital signage, boardroom projector systems and classroom training systems.

The product comes in two variants; 500401-WP-US and 500401-WP-UK. The US versions are Decora compatible. UK versions fit standard UK 86 x 86mm back boxes with minimum depth of 40 mm. Both extenders are enclosed in rugged, dust-proofed modules made from ABS fire retardant plastic, are terminated with RJ45S connectors and support the EIA568 wiring standard.
