Transition's L1000i-at is suitable for both security and enterprise deployments where the cabling infrastructure is used to introduce power to the network.

Transition Networks recently announced the release of a single port 10/100/1000 PoE+ injector. The L1000i-at is suitable for both security and enterprise deployments where the cabling infrastructure is used to introduce power to the network. The new mid-span injector is capable of supplying up to 25.5W of power to network devices when used in conjunction with standard Ethernet switches.

Built to the IEEE 802.3at PoE+ standard, Transition says the new product provides a higher level of power, up to 25.5W, than is available from standard Power over Ethernet (PoE) injectors (15.4W). This higher wattage is required by many PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) network cameras, 802.11n Gigabit wireless access points, and other wireless network equipment deployed today.

Mid-span injectors offer the easiest method for PoE deployment, contends the company. There is no need to replace legacy Ethernet devices in the network to realize the benefits of PoE, so the original investment in purchasing, configuring, and deploying the existing device is protected. Mid-spans also enable PoE ports to be added incrementally over time rather than all at once with the installation of a dedicated Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch. This equates to a more cost-effective and scalable solution for deploying PoE, which, in turn, allows network administrators to upgrade their power infrastructure independently from their data infrastructure.

"The release of our new PoE+ mid-span injector is a nice addition to our mid-span PoE portfolio," comments Kevin Faulds, Director of Product Management at Transition Networks. "It opens the door for our customers to deploy new higher-powered devices in their network that were not previously supported by the 802.3af PoE standard."
