TE Connectivity debuts flexible fiber box for indoor, OSP installations

March 1, 2012
New modular aggregation and demarcation box provides maximum deployment flexibility, says the company.

TE Connectivity (TE) announced the launch of its Flexible Fiber Box, billed as a new type of modular aggregation and demarcation box that provides maximum deployment flexibility for network operators with indoor, outside plant (OSP) and fiber installation challenges. The fiber box features easily interchangeable components for termination, sliding adapter pack, fixed bulkhead, splice, MPO and hardened multifiber optical connector (HMFOC) configurations. It mounts on wall, pole, or any flat surface, and is available in 12- and 24-count fiber configurations.

In addition, the box incorporates TE Connectivity’s RapidReel fiber cable spool, designed to enable faster cable routing and installation while minimizing overall labor costs by paying out exactly as much fiber as needed to make connections. TE contends that the RapidReel spool reduces the need for site survey inspections and simplifies cable ordering and inventory requirements. Any excess cable stores easily back onto the spooling system, eliminating the need for additional slack storage equipment.

TE says the Flexible Fiber Box can be factory- or field-configured for spliced, connectorized, or multi-connectorized applications, and provides future expandability without running additional fiber from the backhaul into the cell site, or from the base station to the radio heads, resulting in reduced labor costs, weight and cable congestion.
