Youtube video documents Data Centers Delivered's University of Colorado case study.

A case study video available on Youtube documents how, over the course of 18 weeks, a company called Data Centers Delivered designed, built, constructed and installed a modular data center for deployment of the Janus Supercomputer, a project of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), located at the University of Colorado's Boulder campus.

According to the company, the Janus Supercomputer data center was designed as a standalone structure but is ready for future expansion via additional modules. The facility's total footprint is 2,277 sq. ft., including 1,500 sq. ft. of raised floor data center space and an additional 750 sq. ft. of integrated space to house the mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

The data center incorporates a custom-built hot aisle containment system with close coupled in-row cooling provided by APC, supported by a water-cooled chiller plant with a plate-and-frame heat exchanger for free cooling. The facility supports an IT load of 1MW at density above 32kW per rack. Target PUE for the facility was 1.2; measured PUE for the first year of operation was 1.14.

Custom modules for the project were built in conjuction with Dell and partner company Critical Facilities Technology, along with NCAR. Data Centers Delivered is a subsidiary of Epsilon Industries (Dallas, TX), a manufacturer of electrical and mechanical systems.
