Belden is launching a series of workshops to help companies design, secure and implement Industrial Ethernet infrastructure based on proven methodologies.
Titled Evolving Your Networks: A Practical Industrial Ethernet Design Workshop, the events feature customized content delivered by local experts within a two-hour session. Belden says its goal is to offer mainstream best practices and simple, common examples, all tied to a step-by-step approach, so that attendees leave with a roadmap of exact next steps to take in order to improve their network’s infrastructure.
Each workshop's presenters are locally-based professionals representing the Hirschmann, GarrettCom, Tofino Security and Belden brands. Presenters will be available after the workshops to answer questions, give advice and help companies customize their approach. The workshops kick off with a stop in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Thursday, August 9, where Belden’s team of experts will cover topics from how to design an end-to-end network infrastructure, to selecting the components required to put the framework into action, including the cables, connectors, switches and routers needed for a long-lasting and sustainable system.
“Industrial Ethernet is arguably the fastest growing technology being installed today, and with the multitude of features and functions it borrows from enterprise and commercial Ethernets, design can be overwhelming,” comments Steve Biegacki, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Belden. “Network designers are asking for simple, practical, proven design steps to ensure their infrastructure is reliable, supportable and expandable for the future, and that’s exactly what the workshop offers.”

For an initial introduction to the local workshops, Belden has also partnered with online magazine Automation World to host a free one-hour webinar on Wednesday, August 15. The webinar, titled Designing Reliable Industrial Ethernet Infrastructures Made Easy, will be co-presented by Belden’s vice president of marketing, Mike Miclot, and director of global vertical marketing, Brian Oulton. During the webinar, Miclot and Oulton will share action-oriented steps for designing mainstream Industrial Ethernet infrastructures, along with practical tips and commentary that will benefit those involved in specifying, commissioning and maintaining network systems, from control and process engineers to plant managers to IT professionals.
“Many of today’s workshops are time-consuming, highly-technical and based on theory. We want to offer something different, something simple that can be immediately put into action,” asserts Miclot. “We skip the history lessons, obsolete features and theoretical discussions, and focus on what’s working in today’s industrial settings. We give you the tools you need so you know exactly what steps need to be taken next -- all in under two hours.”
