Federal data centers clue into DCIM for efficiency gains

Aug. 15, 2012
Federal agencies are finally learning how to best leverage data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools, reports FedTech Magazine.

Reporting in the Summer 2012 issue of FedTech Magazine, Melissa Delaney has written an article describing how federal agencies are learning to leverage data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools to better manage their data centers, while making progress toward the goals of the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative.

The report explains how agencies are increasingly discovering "that running an efficient data center is as much about the systems that power and cool the room as it is about the servers themselves." The piece goes on to recount how the House of Representatives has learned this lesson, by recently implementing a DCIM platform after an eight-year stint of employing various other, less efficient methods for monitoring and maintainence of its data center infrastructure.
