Aug. 30, 2012
Advaned Fiber Optic Testing and Troubleshooting Course is a two-day session designed for craftsmen desiring advanced testing skills and knowledge.

Corning Cable Systems has introduced its Advanced Fiber Optic Testing and Troubleshooting Course, TS AFOTT-200, a hands-on course for passive optical singlemode and multimode fiber-optic networks.

The two-day class "goes beyond the basic functions of a light source and power meter and optical time-domain reflectometer, and prepares the craftsperson for optical fiber network acceptance testing and troubleshooting," the company says. "The course is loaded with practical exercises and extensive hands-on training to equip the installers with the skills required to perform detailed link-loss testing by practicing on simulated fiber-optic systems using a light source and power meter, and OTDR. This class is designed for those who desire advanced testing skills and knowledge."

The curriculum includes:

  • Safety
  • Testing and documentation
  • Theory of testing
  • Industry standards
  • Testing with an OTDR
  • Attenuation testing with a light source and power meter
  • Troubleshooting

Classes held at Corning's regional facilities in Hickory, NC (October 16-17); Keller, TX (October 30-31); Palo Alto, CA (November 13-14); and Corning, NY (December 4-5) cost $799 per student for the two-day course. Those held elsewhere cost $899 per student. Corning sets a maximum class size at 12.
