Preterminated fiber cabling system for industrial networks

A new DIN rail adapter from trans data elektronik (tde) allows the installation of preterminated fiber-optic modules in industrial/manufacturing environments. tde's chief executive officer Andre Engel said, "With the tML DIN rail adapter we offer a practical tool to easily connect manufacturing machines via fiber or copper. All cables and connectors are already preterminated and merely have to be connected on site."

tde also explained that in industrial environments, "fiber optic networks are increasingly used for linking manufacturing plants, which is a clear advantage in comparison to copper cabling ... To date, the Industrial Ethernet mostly relies on traditional cabling methods, which means that the required cable lengths are determined and the cables are cut as well as furnished with the connectors on site."

The company further described the benefits of plug-and-play cabling, and its product offering in particular, in industrial networks. "If optimization measures in the production lines require a rearrangement, the locations of the machines can be easily changed without having to replace the entire cabling due to the modular cabling systems. The tML DIN rail adapter is designed for the installation of two tML modules on a DIN rail inside a cabling cabinet. The adapters take any two tML modules and allow the assembly of the modules in two stages with different inclination angles at a maximum of 30 degrees.

"For those users who want to continue to rely on copper wiring, tde provides twisted-pair modules and trunk cables with PUR [polyurethane] cable jackets. This cable is particularly suitable for the industry because it is less sensitive to corrosive materials and resists considerable mechanical stress," the company concluded.
