Google has released a gallery of high-quality photos that provides a comprehensive look inside its data center infrastructure, revealing in close-up the technology that powers its online information juggernaut. Titled Where the Internet Lives, the photo gallery features images by architectural photographer Connie Zhou, showcasing the grandeur and complexity of the facilities that literally power the Internet.

Writing on the Google Blog, Urs Hölzle, the company's senior vice president, technical infrastructure, comments, “While we’ve shared many of our designs and best practices, and we’ve been publishing our efficiency data since 2008, only a small set of employees have access to the server floor itself. Today, for the first time, you can see inside our data centers and pay them a virtual visit.”
