EXFO named market share leader in portable fiber-optic test equipment

Nov. 15, 2012
EXFO has received Frost & Sullivan's 2012 Global Market Share Leadership Award in the portable fiber-optic test equipment (FOTE) category.

EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) announced that has received Frost & Sullivan's 2012 Global Market Share Leadership Award in the portable fiber-optic test equipment (FOTE) category. According to the technology research and consulting firm, EXFO captured first place in the overall portable FOTE market with a market share of 36.7% in 2011.

EXFO says its close collaboration with customers and the superior quality of its products have helped to establish its brand globally in the portable FOTE market. The key performance driver for EXFO has been its focus on portable OTDRs, fiber inspection solutions, power meters, light sources, optical loss test sets and optical spectrum analyzers, for which the company says it has gained significant momentum in new regions, with more than 100% growth in Brazil and other Latin American countries in 2011 over 2010.

The intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM) is one of EXFO's flagship products in the FOTE market. Using the company's patent-pending Link-Aware technology, this OTDR-based application removes complexity from traditional OTDR testing by launching multi-pulse acquisitions, automating parameter settings, analyzing the results and presenting clear pass/fail verdicts, illustrated with colored icons.

"Developing close relationships with our customers, tailoring solutions for their challenges, and delivering innovation that offers them true value are all factors that have helped EXFO maintain the number one position in the portable FOTE market over the years," comments Étienne Gagnon, vice-president of EXFO's test and measurement division. "We will continue to build our brand and increase our global presence to make sure we offer our customers the best FOTE portfolio in the industry."

As further proof of the popularity of EXFO's portable testers, the company notes that its FTB-200 Compact Platform reached in the last year the milestone of over 25,000 units sold, with sales of the company's FTB-1 handheld platform also continuously growing.

"EXFO's success in the portable FOTE market segment is attributed to the close relationships it maintains with its customers in order to identify their specific requirements and therefore come up with new products and solutions that are in line with market requirements," concludes Sujan Sami, industry manager at Frost & Sullivan. "Over the years, EXFO has developed innovative products that simplify test processes while increasing testing speed and accuracy, which explains the company's significant growth in the portable FOTE market segment globally."
