Through customer engagement, building data centers and working closely with IaaS architects and administrations, the company says it has observed "a few facts that all of the best cloud data centers in the world share." The white paper segments these similarities into four basic design principles including: scalable physical design; simple provisioning rules; an elastic design; and capacity to support 'East-West' traffic flows.
Notably, the paper examines how "during a new deployment of physical systems to the existing cloud the goal is to prevent introducing down-time in the existing system. This happens because of complexity in physical installation of the new resources. When designing a cloud cluster, one important consideration is to avoid performance reduction due to rebalancing once the physical resources are installed."
