Low-PIM DAS enables superior indoor wireless coverage

Ethertronics (San Diego) has expanded its EtherDAS Indoor USA line of distributed antenna systems (DAS).

Ethertronics (San Diego) has expanded its EtherDAS Indoor USA line of distributed antenna systems (DAS) with two new products, the EtherDAS 1.5 and the EtherDAS S platforms. Both systems are capable of achieving superior passive intermodulation (PIM) performance of -153 dBc in all 2G, 3G and 4G bands, from 700 MHz through 2.7 GHz, the better to meet mobile operators' stringent PIM requirements for DAS.

As noted by the company, a low PIM figure indicates that a DAS system can minimize interference and provide noticeably superior performance and faster throughput on both the uplink and downlink. Ethertronics claims its EtherDAS Indoor line of DAS products is the first to achieve such a low PIM specification.

The EtherDAS 1.5 system provides a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) spec of <1.5:1 for an optimum impedance match, providing higher transmit power and improved performance. The EtherDAS S system employs a proprietary technique to shape the antenna's radiation pattern. The result is optimal wireless coverage within the building, such as an office or hotel lobby. Keeping the signal strength inside a given building improves connectivity within the office space and minimizes interference with other DAS signals from surrounding buildings, solving a major pain point for wireless operators and their DAS customers, according to Ethertronics.

"With mobile use at an all-time high, mobile operators are increasingly focusing on improving in-building coverage and capacity, particularly for LTE," comments Olivier Robin, GM of the Americas and Europe for Ethertronics. He continues, "Given their low-PIM and VSWR specifications, our new EtherDAS 1.5 and EtherDAS S products are ideal solutions for mobile operators as they are a powerful tool for meeting in-building needs while reducing their macro base station CapEx and OpEx numbers and minimizing their need to purchase additional spectrum. Given their proprietary design techniques, EtherDAS 1.5 and EtherDAS S antennas also greatly benefit users by delivering high-performance uplink and downlink speeds and ubiquitous connectivity while inside buildings."

In addition to featuring a compact design and neutral color so they blend in with their surroundings, both products are available in three versions, with an N connector, a DIN connector or with a 500 mm pigtail with N connector, respectively, providing installation flexibility. Both the EtherDAS 1.5 and EtherDAS S lines are assembled in the U.S. For more information, visit www.ethertronics.com.
