In-building broadband antenna dually supports public safety, cellular networks

Galtronics has released its latest ultra-broadband in-building antenna, the PEAR S5491i.

Galtronics has released its latest ultra-broadband in-building antenna, the PEAR S5491i, which offers simultaneous coverage for TETRA, cellular, GSM850, PCS and AWS bands.

At 380-6000 MHz, the antenna's ultra-wideband frequency range supports public safety and cellular networks on the same platform. The small size of the antenna (13.2 inches in diameter x 4.8 inches in height -- two inches smaller in height than other models on the market, claims the company) makes it uniquely suited for cellular projects that cover public safety (i.e. TETRA) frequencies, says Galtronics.

The unit's size and adjustable mounting options -- including below, through and above the ceiling -- minimize visibility of the antenna within a building. Further, the S5491i looks identical to other Galtronics PEAR antennas for cellular-only coverage, enabling a consistent look for multiple antennas across the deployment. The S5491i quad-band antenna offers superior omni performance with a positive gain at 380 MHz (0-1.5dBi), compared to most public safety antennas with a gain of -2 dBi or lower. The company contends that it is the only public safety antenna with a guaranteed low PIM performance of < -150dBc @ 2x 20W.

“Increasingly, buildings and public venues are required by law to provide seamless coverage for public safety and first responders in the event of an emergency,” comments Ephraim Ulmer, president and CEO of Galtronics. “We are responding to this need by providing one of the smallest antennas available on the market today to cover low frequencies starting at 380 MHz.”
