Fujikura Europe has launched what it bills as "the world’s smallest" single fiber fusion splicer to the international market. Measuring just 121-mm wide, 162-mm deep and 57-mm high, the company claims that its model 12S is the most portable and ergonomic [FTTH splicing] device ever developed.
The 12S is the latest addition to Fujikura's fusion splicer range of products. The new tool has been specifically designed for fiber installation in small, narrow spaces, says the company. New features include a Li-ion battery that is 3x more powerful than the manufacturer's previous model. The 12S is capable of performing more than 100 splices on a single charge.
The splicer's fixed v-groove and dual- axis observation system is specialized to enable reliable splicing between 0.05 dB singlemode and 0.02 dB multimode. The new unit also features a much larger high-resolution LCD monitor, which provides a clear image of the fiber with viability for use in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
“What we pride ourselves on is developing technology which offers simple yet high quality solutions for the end- user, in this case making complicated splicing jobs as simple and easy as possible," comments Roy Higgins, deputy managing director of Fujikura Europe. "The 12S not only comes with the assurance of practicality but also the backing of quality support from Fujikura to ensure customers aftercare they can rely on."
The model 12S splicer also includes a re-designed carry case which doubles as a "place and splice" table, with a stable detachable working table for mobile operation while performing splices on aerial jobs.
“The 12S is now the most practical and compact single fibre splicer on the market," concludes Fujikura's Higgins. "Many years of research and design have gone into improving our single splice offering, and we expect this product to be very popular with engineers working in the field on FTTH, metro, LAN and data centre splice jobs.
Fujikura Europe will present the 12S for the first time at the FTTH Council Conference in London next month.
