L-com has released a new Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) splitter/tap with a DC output that can be set to 5V, 7.5V, 9V, or 12V. The adjustable DC output allows these units to be used with a wide range of non-PoE devices such as wireless access points and IP cameras.
The BT-CAT5-R0512 splitter/tap delivers both data and DC power to non-PoE equipped Ethernet devices using a single Cat 5 cable. The unit supports both Fast and Gigabit Ethernet speeds. In addition, the BT-CAT5-R0512 is compliant with 802.3af PoE. The unit is unique in that it works with both 802.3af compliant network switches (PoE Mode A) and midspan/injectors (PoE Mode B).
"Part of the convenience of PoE is the versatility to power remote electronics without needing to worry about the power availability at the location," comments Patrick Pesa, product manager at L-Com. "We just increased that versatility by allowing installers to choose the appropriate Voltage on a single PoE tap."
Along with the units, L-com includes an 18-inch DC power cable along with 2.1-mm and 2.5-mm DC plugs in both straight and right angle configurations as part of a full kit. View the product's data sheet.
