Verizon exec predicts broadcast video-over-LTE by 2014
Jan. 9, 2013
Technology to broadcast live TV over Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network is reportedly in the works.
Todd Spangler of Multichannel Newsreports that, in a presentation at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Verizonchairman and CEO Lowell McAdam revealed that the company is working on technology to broadcast live TV over Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network, by maybe as early as next year.
McAdam discussed the project in his keynote address at the 2013 International CES -- a speech "that was [otherwise] devoid of major product announcements or demonstrations," reports Spangler. The piece further notes that "Verizon Wireless has marketing and joint development partnerships with four MSOs -- Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks -- under which the companies are collaborating on applications that span wireline and wireless networks."
