Extron Electronics announced on June 24 it has filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Crestron Electronics Inc. “for infringement of Extron’s U.S. Patent No. 8,740,127 entitled ‘Cable Retractor.’” According to this information from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Patent No. 8,740,127 was issued on June 3, 2014.
Extron explained that its Cable Retractor patent “relates to a cable retraction and management system designed to work with cable access enclosures.” It also cited several Crestron products that it accuses of infringing the patent.
Andrew Edwards, president and chief executive officer of Extron, commented, “Extron’s engineers have led the way in the development of the cable retractors. When Extron believes its inventions and patented technology have been copied or otherwise infringed, we take the necessary steps to protect our intellectual property.”
Extron further stated its Retractor series of products “enables smooth and effortless push-button cable retraction.”
Crestron Electronics did not immediately comment on the lawsuit.
