Dual-polarity 2.4/5 GHz flat panel antennas offer ubiquitous frequency support
L-com announced that, as a result of the success of its existing dual-band flat panel antennas, the company has added two new models to its DP series of dual polarity 2.4/5 GHz flat panel antennas.
The company says its HG2458-10DP-6NF and HG2458-14DP-4NF models combine vertical and horizontal polarization with high gain over a broadband frequency range in a single enclosure. Both models operate at 2.4/4.9-5.8 GHz, which makes them ideal for IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, and the new 802.11ac standard applications. Since they can operate at 4.9 GHz, they can also be used for homeland security and public safety band applications.
"The wide band design of these antennas has eliminated the need to purchase separate antennas for each frequency," says Kenneth Burgner, product manager for L-com. "They represent an innovative solution for our customer’s wireless applications."

The DP series antennas operate in vertical as well as horizontal polarization schemes. Dual polarized antennas are often used in MIMO/802.11n applications to enable multi-thread communications, notes the company. This allows the device to transmit data on one polarization and simultaneously receive it on the other. The advantage of this is that multi-thread communications can be achieved with the use of one antenna instead of using two independent (and opposite polarized) antennas for the same result.
The HG2458-14DP-4NF combines four dual band antennas in a single housing and consists of two vertically and two horizontally polarized multi-patch antennas, each fed via its own N-Female connector. The unit can be used with access points and routers with one to four antenna ports. The gain of this antenna is 13 dBi @ 2.4 GHz and 14 dBi @ 5 GHz.
The HG2458-10DP-6NF combines six dual band antennas in a single housing. The unit consists of four vertically and two horizontally polarized multi-patch antennas, each fed via its own N-Female connector. This unit can be used with access points and routers with one to six antenna ports. The gain of this antenna is 9 dBi @ 2.4 GHz and 10 dBi @ 5 GHz.
Both models also feature a heavy-duty UV-resistant plastic radome, which makes the antennas suitable for all-weather operation. A tilt and swivel mast mount kit is included, which allows for quick installation and various degrees of up/down tilt for easy alignment.
