On May 25, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published the NEMA VE 1-2017 Metal Cable Tray Systemsstandard.

NEMA VE 1 specifies requirements for metal cable trays and associated fittings designed for use in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, and the National Electrical Code. It is harmonized with Canadian Standards Association Publication CSA C22.2 No. 126.1.

"This harmonized U.S. and Canadian standard is widely used in many countries," says Brandon Tally, Eaton's B-line Business and chair of NEMA's 5CT Cable Tray Section. "The latest edition responds to industry developments and customers' needs with updated references and definitions, clarification to corrosion and bonding specifications, and revised testing requirements."

According to a press release, the most significant change to NEMA VE 1 is the removal of Test Method B Loading to Residual Deflection.

NEMA VE 1-2017 is available for $84 in hard copy or as an electronic download on the NEMA website.
