AFL expanded its splicing line with the new Fujikura 45S Fusion Splicer in North America. The product has industry-first dual fiber preparation and improved ergonomics as well as a bevy of new features to meet increasing demands for high-speed broadband access.
The standard kit for the 45S includes the SS-05, a hand-held fiber coating stripper, which is used to strip two 250 μm coated fibers in one pass at the same time. On top of that the Fujikura CT-50 cleaver adapter plate allows for the cleaving of two bare fibers simultaneously.
When the fibers are ready for fusion splicing the 45S utilizes sheath clamps to make way for both fibers to be easily inserted into the splicer with one in each hand. While this feature may seem simple, it streamlines the splicing process so one does not have to load each fiber individually. If used with a faster tube heater the splicing cycle time is reduced by 30%.
The Fujikura 45S Fusion Splicer has similar features to the 41S+ Fusion Splicer in that they both have Active Fusion Control and Active Blade Management, which allows for the consistent production of low-loss splices without user intervention. It also includes the Warm Splice Imaging feature which gives improved splice loss estimates to assess the quality of every splice more precisely.
This product also has a wide range of other features including increased motor travel to reverse fibers initially loaded too long, sheath clamps that can open and close with the wind protector, a removable work tray and transit case, and more.
If a product needs repair, AFL has the only authorized repair facility for Fujikura splicing products in the U.S. The company also offers 24/7 technical support and complimentary on-site training with each splicer bought.
