Copper cabling for harsh environments

Dec. 4, 2012
Small, rugged cables and assemblies from TE Connectivity stand up to demanding aerospace, defense, marine and other conditions.

High-speed copper cabling products from TE Connectivity offer “improved networking performance in extreme applications,” the company says. “The smaller, lighter high-speed cables result in a smaller bend radius leading to greater flexibility and routing.”

John Wadeley, regional product manager for the company’s global aerospace, defense and marine business, stated, “Increasing platform complexity requires dependable solutions to transmit data in harsh environments. TE’s high-speed copper cables provide ruggedized signal integrity in mission-critical applications.”

Wire and cable product manager Jill Weir noted, “Our matched impedance high-speed data cables and connectors are of exceeding quality, with reduced weight, size and complexity, along with an ability to protect cables from harsh environments and electromagnetic interference. TE’s leadership in materials sciences and engineering places us on the forefront of cable design.”

The company further explained that several of its copper cables and assemblies meet the need for increased bandwidth for today’s communications standards like Ethernet, FireWire, Fibre Channel and USB 3.0 and 2.0 in aerospace, defense and marine applications. Weir continued, “TE can provide unique end-to-end cable assembly solutions to meet present and future high-bandwidth applications.”

Within the military/aerospace/marine realm, TE Connectivity says its copper cabling products meet the demands of systems including in-flight entertainment, radar, thermal imaging, situational awareness, missiles, weapon systems, and smart soldiers.
