Cable manufacturer enhances custom-manufacturing options

Allied Wire and Cable now dedicates a section of its website to custom jobs, including step-by-step assessment of product requirements.

Allied Wire and Cable, which manufactures and distributes wire and cable products, recently announced that it has enhanced its custom-cable manufacturing operation, including the addition of a section of its website dedicated to custom jobs.

“Many times customers don’t even need a new cable spec-ed out,” explained key account specialist Chris Burke when discussing the company’s custom-cable business. “They’ll tell us things like, ‘I’ve been ordering so-and-so stock cable, and it works alright, but I wish it was a little more flexible,’ or, ‘I wish it had a different jacket material,’ or whatever. A lot of times people seem surprised when I let them know I can do that for them.”

The Custom Cable Center now exists on Allied’s website. The company says that portion of the site “is designed to be a one-stop shop for any and all custom cable needs.” It is organized into an information center, a cable-design center, and a cable gallery. Co-owner Tim Flynn said Allied wanted “to expand the resources available to our customers because we want them to have the best information available … We want to give them tools and information they can really use.”

The information center enables visitors to view articles, FAQs and engineering resources with information on cable components, materials and construction concepts. It also includes a video covering custom-cable design basics.

The gallery includes case studies of custom cables that Allied has completed. And the design center includes a step-by-step form that walks users through their requirements “to create a solid foundation for their design and quote discussions,” the company said.
