The Quantum Handheld V-groove splicer has a 110x140x76mm footprint, which Sumitomo Electric Lightwave says enables "maximum portability," adding that it "provides the fastest 12-second typical splice time among handheld splicers, for improved efficiency in space-constrained areas typical with FTTx and data center work areas."

The Quantum Handheld V-groove splicer has a 110x140x76mm footprint, which Sumitomo Electric Lightwave says enables "maximum portability," adding that it "provides the fastest 12-second typical splice time among handheld splicers, for improved efficiency in space-constrained areas typical with FTTx and data center work areas." The Quantum Type-QH201e-VS "offers the most advanced splicing technology, as evidenced by industry-only features that heighten the splicing experience for installers and technicians," Sumitomo says. Those features include a fully navigational touch screen interface for maximum user-friendliness, with a traditional keypad also included; an Internet interface for 24/7 remote diagnostic and maintenance with the company's On-Time Service Center technicians; and an SD port for "virtually unlimited data storage for software, training, video, and audio uploads/downloads." The RoHS-compliant splicer also complies with the most-stringent shock, waterproof, and dust-resistance requirements. It offers extended-life electrodes, built-in training videos, and Lynx2-Plus CustomFit Splice-On Connector compatibility. Sumitomo will feature the splicer at Booth 620 of the BICSI Fall Conference and Exhibition.

Handheld core-alignment splicer

OFS describes its Fitel S178 Version 2 Hand-Held Core-Alignment Fusion Splicer as "the latest, state-of-the-art addition to the S17X series of splicers." It combines speed, precision, durability and portability, the company adds. It can be used in a wide range of applications including fiber-to-the-x, local area networks, backbones, enterprise networks, long-haul installations, data centers, and OEM applications. "It is also an excellent option for use in the conventional telecommunications industry, along with other industries including oil and gas," OFS adds.

The Fitel S178 Version 2's key features include its internal battery-charging capability, an illumination lamp that lights up a wide area around the v-grooves, a user-friendly LCD display that offers four different X/Y image layouts, and the ability to display immediate results with a simplified splice-result indicator.

70S core-alignment splicer

AFL describes its 70S as the "fastest and most-robust core-alignment fusion splicer." The fully ruggedized splicer "provides consistent, low-loss splice performance," the company continues. "The new design streamlines the steps required to complete splices, resulting in greater productivity."

It includes a feature called "configurable automation," which, AFL explains, enables users to customize the operation of the machine to best suit each user's particular splicing technique and process. "A new programmable 'automatic wind protector' closes and begins the splicing process after clamping the fibers in position or pressing the 'set' button," AFL explains.

"Once the splice is completed, not only is the wind protector opened, but one of the sheath clamps is automatically raised, making removal of the fibers fast and easy," the company continues. "Similarly, the 'clamshell' design of the tube heater clamps the splice-protection sleeve and applies heat from both sides, which results in a reduced shrink time of just 14 seconds."

Splicer also strips, cleaves and cleans

The Swift S5 Fusion Splicer from America Ilsintech combines the design of thermal stripper, precision cleaver, cleaner dispenser, core-alignment splicer and sleeve heater into a single unit, the company says. "These superior prep and splice functions provide repeatable field results by encouraging best practices throughout the process," the company says. "Touch-screen menus allow adjustments of all functions and a field calibration capability," America Ilsintech added, which make the Swift S5 easy to use and maintain.

This and other fusion splicers from America Ilsintech are complemented by the company's line of splice-on connectors, which include SC, ST, LC and FC types in singlemode and multimode versions, including UPC and APC polishes.

Splicers with 520x-magnification

Inno Instrument has introduced the new ARC fusion splicer series, comprising the View 7, View 5 and View 3 models. The company says, "As the name suggests, the View series carries ... magnification of 520x operated by a double-tapping gesture (zoom in and out), and 5-inch high-resolution color LCD touchscreen with friendly, intuitive GUI."

View 7 is the top-of-the-line model, providing "maximized work efficiency through fast heating time of 18 seconds and an ultra-high-capacity battery supporting 355 splicing/heating cycles," Inno explains. View 5 is a core-alignment fusion splicer suitable for all fiber-to-the-x field users, the company says, and is compatible with widely used fiber-optic cables and splice-on connectors. View 3 is an active V-groove fusion splicer, providing a "reliable working experience delivering the best possible splice loss," Inno concludes.
