UL descriptions
Underwriters Laboratories applies several different labels to products that it tests. These labels can be a source of confusion.
UL listing means that a product is tested for a specific application and the label is not valid for other applications. For a product to be UL listed, it must pass a series of mechanical, electrical and thermal characteristic tests that simulate all reasonable and foreseeable hazards.
UL classification is a rating system generally restricted to industrial and commercial products. For a product to be UL classified, it must pass a test for a specific hazard or perform under specific conditions.
The UL recognition rating is a more general-purpose category that permits certification for a range of uses. For a product to be UL recognized, it must pass a test as a component in a UL-listed device.
Interconnect or crossconnect
What`s the difference between an interconnect and a crossconnect? Equipment in the telecommunications closet or equipment room can be connected to horizontal cable terminations in one of two ways: either by interconnection or crossconnection. Crossconnection must be used when the equipment has a multiport or 25-pair telco connector. Either method is acceptable for connecting equipment with single-port connectors.
