IMC Networks has released the IE-iMcV-MultiWay modular media converter, which provides Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet multi-function networking. The company says the new converter performs several tasks for customer premises equipment/fiber operations. According to IMC Networks senior product sales engineer David Zaveski, "In an ISP application, when installing the new IE-iMcV-MutliWay at the customer premise, the device converts the fiber connections to match the various copper interfaces. It can be paired with an iMcV-GigaFiberLinX-11 as a host, creating a host/remote IP-less management relationship. Connections can be monitored using IEEE 802.3ah OAM, CFM management and configuration of the remote can be done through the host."
As Zaveski stated, the new media converter supports IEEE 802.3ah OAM (Operation, Administration and Management). It also has a wide range of internal powering options when using the Media Chassis, the IE-Media Chassis and iMedia Chassis products, IMC Networks says. The chassis' options provide variable operating temperatures, including extended temperature and both AC and redundant power. Zaveski adds, "Similar to the IE-MultiWay, the IE-iMcV-MutliWay product provides the same multiple features to accommodate many applications. One sample application offers customers extended temperature ranges for applications where the environment is volatile, but also adds the convenience of having an internal power option at the CPE end."
The converter has two dual-speed SFP ports and two copper 10/100/1000-Mbit/sec twisted-pair ports. Scheduled to begin shipping in September, the IE-iMcV-MultiWay lists for $600 and is available through distribution.
