Online configurator for fiber patch cords and trunk cables

Aug. 13, 2014
trans data elektronik has developed a web-based, three-step process for specification of fiber-optic media.

trans data elektronik (tde) recently announced the launch of an online configurator that, in three steps, enables users to customize orders for fiber-optic patch and trunk cables. According to the company, its configurator “includes the multi-fiber technology MPO/MTP. The integrated validity check guarantees viable configurations.”

Users “first choose the cable, then the connector, and finally extras such as cable-pulling socks or labeling,” the company added. The specification of one parameter limits subsequent options only to those that are relevant or technically feasible, ensuring that the ultimate configuration is plausible, tde explained.

“With our new fiber-optic configurator we meet our customers’ demand for a simple and secure configuration,” said Andre Engel, tde’s chief executive officer. “The online tool is intuitive and ensures the highest reliability for users. At the same time, it makes it easier for us to process requests and we can respond even faster and more-specific to the demands of our customers.”

With each configuration, the system automatically develops an item number and corresponding data sheet, which explains all parameters for connectors, cables, optical fibers and distributors. “Customers can add their configured items to a watch-list, indicating the quantity, and can directly send it to tde’s internal sales service,” the company further explained.

The company said it is working on configurators for splice boxes and copper cable assemblies.
