July 6, 2009 -- EqcoLogic, a supplier of high-speed, low-power analog and mixed-signal ICs for digital communications applications, announced that its new EQCO800SC transceiver circuit is now available worldwide. The device enables full duplex communication together with power transmission over a single, low cost coaxial (coax) cable, at speeds of up to 1.25 Gbit/second and with cable lengths up to 100 meters.
The EQCO800SC supports a number of protocols including IEEE 1394b (FireWire), Ethernet (Fast and Gigabit), and LVDS. It is in part designed for automotive applications, where the EQCO800SC enables high performance and low cost networking with coax cables and connectors in entertainment, information and driver assist applications.
The EqcoLogic device is also suited for industrial and security cameras where FireWire cameras have established a strong position. The company notes that, typically, FireWire cables can only be used at lengths up to 4.5 meters, and they also have a complex and expensive connector and cable structure. However, with the EQCO800SC circuit, long haul connections can be made using pre-existing coax infrastructure. This allows the conversion of an existing analog camera system (using 75 ohm coax cabling) to digital without the need to re-lay cable.
The company also notes that installations with coax cables and connectors are intrinsically flexible and can include slip rings to allow rotation; for example, of a camera platform. EqcoLogic says its partners are integrating the EQCO800SC into extenders, hubs, "SMART connectors" and "SMART cables" to make adoption as easy as possible. A new, integrated connector incorporating the EQCO800SC is also forthcoming from a collaborative program with Radiall SA.
EqcoLogic has prepared reference circuits for hubs and adaptors and demonstration and test boards for purchase from the company's website. The EQCO800SC is priced at $14.00 each for 1,000-unit quantities. Volume discounts are available.
