Report Summarizes Contractors’, End-Users’ Experiences with PoE
Jan. 22, 2025
Survey results also gauge interest in other powering technologies like FMP and SPoE.
A report now available for free download provides summary information on cabling-system contractors’ and end-user organizations’ experiences with Power over Ethernet (PoE). Derived from a survey conducted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance in late 2024, the report provides statistical detail on several facets of PoE deployment, including the following.
Version(s) of PoE being used (IEEE 802.3af, at, bt)
Network devices most commonly powered by PoE
Length of cabling links supporting PoE
Compliance with industry standards and codes when new PoE circuits are installed
Extent to which contractors and end-users typically collaborate on PoE deployment plans
Overall satisfaction level with PoE as a powering technology
In addition to PoE, the survey asked about contractors’ and end-users’ familiarity with, and interest in, other technologies that deliver power to network devices—namely fault managed power (FMP) and Single Pair Power over Ethernet (SPoE).
The survey we conducted in 2024 was underwritten by Analog Devices and CommScope. Subject matter experts from those two organizations participated in a webinar that expounded on some of the survey’s high-level results. You can view that webinar here.
