Single Pair Ethernet Media Converters

Omnitron Systems offers two IEEE 802.3cg-compliant products that convert between standard 10Base-T and single-pair 10Base-T1L.

Omnitron Systems recently introduced two compact Single Pair Ethernet T1L media converter/injector products. Both OmniConverter brand Single Pair Ethernet converters are IEEE 802.3cg-compliant and convert between standard 10-Mbit/sec 10Base-T and single-pair 10Base-T1L Ethernet. The Single Pair Ethernet cabling enables full duplex over the Single Pair Ethernet link to reach distances up to 1 kilometer.

Both the OmniConverter 10T/T1L and the OmniConverter 10TPS/T1L converter models feature one 2-pin terminal block 10Base-T1L 802.3cg-compliant port, and one 10Base-T RJ45 Ethernet port supporting 10-Mbit/sec full-duplex data rates.

The OmniConverter 10TPS/T1L Converter/Injector supports IEEE 802.3at PoE+ power injection through its 10Base-T RJ45 port.

The OmniConverter Single Pair Ethernet converts achieve seamless Ethernet connectivity to IEEE 802.3cg-compliant devices, such as field transmitters, building controllers, or cameras, Omnitron points out.

The modules are plug-and-play devices that support 10-Mbit/sec data rates and full duplex for in-line installation to extend network distances for industrial and building automation applications.

Each is available as a standalone unit with or without integrated mounting brackets. They can be DIN-rail mounted using an optional mounting clip. Models are available with an external 100 to 240VAC power adapter, or with a 2-pin DC terminal connector.

“The new Single Pair Ethernet standard IEEE 802.3cg for 10Base-T1L provides the ability to extend Ethernet beyond the 100-meter traditional limit of copper cable, while ensuring compatibility with existing Ethernet protocols,” commented Sankar Ramachandran, Omnitron Systems’ director of product management. “Until 10Base-T1L interfaces become common in switches and other end-devices, media converters such as the OmniConverter 10T/T1L can be used to adapt between the 10Base-T and 10Base-T1L, and extend Ethernet up to 1 kilometer, versus the normal 100-meter range of 10Base-T.”

Both converters are available in commercial (0 deg to 50 deg C), wide (-40 deg to +60 deg C), and extended (-40 deg to +75 deg C) operating temperature range models.
