As AI, cloud computing and the energy transition have risen, Eaton saw the need for data center operators to effectively manage technology assets and resource consumption. To help accelerate digital transformation, the company has a new portfolio of digital solutions made to increase uptime, optimize performance, and enhance sustainability. The platform is part of Eaton’s Brightlayer Data Centers Suite which brings together asset management, power quality metrics and advanced electrical supervision, and IT and operational technology (OT), in one application. Some of these assets include uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), power distribution units (PDUs), switchgear, generators, cooling equipment, battery storage, solar equipment and more.
Mike Jackson, global director of product, data center, and distributed IT Software at Eaton stated that point solutions were “no longer sufficient to provide data center operators the visibility they need into their increasingly complex ecosystem of IT and OT assets.” He also stated that the Brightlayer Data Centers suite simplifies managing, monitoring, and controlling a broad range of infrastructure assets “while providing seamless integration with other software and a simplified way to expand software capabilities as an operator’s needs grow.”
40% of data center operators want to utilize digitalization to reduce their overall energy costs and 46% of operators are currently using or planning to use digital technology to track performance related to their sustainability goals.
The platform has three solutions that can either be used exclusively on their own or together based on what the customer requires these include: data center performance management software, electrical power monitoring system software, and distributed IT performance management software.
If needed later on customers can add functionality which gets rid of the requirement of migrating data or integrating multiple software platforms. The application can also be used with third-party software like building management systems and IT service management applications and configuration management databases.
