Eaton recently introduced SmartRack, its modular data center solution “for organizations seeking to rapidly meet the growing requirements for edge computing, machine learning, and AI,” the company said. The modular facility can be deployed in days—rather than months—in a variety of facilities. Eaton says locations including enterprise or colocation data centers, manufacturing facilities, and warehouses are particularly appropriate for SmartRack.
The SmartRack modular data centers combine IT rack, cooling, and service enclosures to create a system they describe as “performance-optimized” that is intended for critical equipment with a load of up to 150 kW. Eaton says the enclosures included in the data center are easy to transport and durable, and the entire system can be sized, configured, commissioned, and deployed quickly.
Eaton offers 13 standard configurations that ship pre-built and include in-row cooling systems. Custom configurations are also available.
SmartRack modular data centers are compatible with the company’s in-row precision cooling system, which also carries the brand name SmartRack—as well as its power distribution units, single- and three-phase uninterruptible power supplies, cables, keyboard/video/mouse, and cable management accessories. They’re also compatible with Eaton’s remote-management and monitoring system, Brightlayer, which administers cooling, UPSs, PDUs and other components.
“The race is on as the rapid growth of AI and edge computing increases the demand for small data centers with shorter development cycles, lower costs and optimized capacity,” commented Jose L. Medina, Eaton product manager. “While deploying new data centers has traditionally been a costly and time-intensive effort, we’ve simplified the process with an innovative solution operators can have up and running in days, not weeks or months.”
