Black Box recently added OM4 fiber to its line of multicolored fiber optic patch cable. The IEEE 802.3ae-compliant OM4 fiber patch cables provide an upgrade path from 10 to 40 Gbits/sec, Black Box noted. “It’s capable of transmitting data up to 500 meters at 10 Gbits/sec,” the company said. “The cable can be used with either 85-nm VCSELs or LED laser light sources.”
The OM4 fiber cable joins Black Box’s line of OM1, OM2, OM3 and singlemode multicolored fiber patch cable. “This line enables users to color-code fiber networks for different applications and departments,” the company said. “This is becoming more and more prevalent in data centers. For instance, red cables can indicate connections for secure switches.”
The cables are available in a variety of options, including the following.
- 2 jacket styles: PVC and plenum
- 10 connector combinations
- 12 colors, from white to violet
- 13 lengths, from 1 to 30 meters
“These cables offer color options normally found only in custom cable,” Black Box said, adding that the company has more than 16,000 standard part numbers.
