SMB and enterprise NAS is optimized for 10GbE networking

Jan. 16, 2014
Thecus introduces two new SMB and enterprise NAS systems with 10GbE networking.

Network attached storage (NAS) expert Thecus (Milipitas, CA) has formally announced its newest NAS units aimed at SMB and enterprise users, the N7710-G and N8810U-G. Powerful hardware, an efficient design, and superior software support allow these NAS products offer multiple functions to multiple users, contends the company. These latest additions to the Thecus NAS line offer significant improvements in performance thanks to powerful Intel Pentium G850 dual core CPUs, and support for 10GbE networking. The company notes that 10GbE technology delivers speeds up to 10x faster than regular Gigabit connections, ensuring these NAS units will be ready for whatever the future can throw at them.

With flexibility for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and JBOD options, users can hone their own balance between platform performance and redundancy. Given their ability to host numerous drives, both new products benefit from the balanced strengths of RAID 50, while the N8810U-G also offers the enhanced reliability of RAID 60. For maximum resource optimization, a User Quota feature and iSCSI Thin Provisioning ensure that storage resources are shared efficiently. Both new NAS products also have VMware V5.5 certification, for compatibility with the latest virtualization technologies. Further, with support for Acronis True Image, data can be backed up to local and remote media easily and automatically. Data Guard provides another option for local and remote backup to other NAS, and Data Burn offers permanent backup to CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray discs. Meanwhile, McAfee Antivirus keeps watch to safeguard all data passing through the NAS, and Thecus’s AES 256-bit RAID volume encryption protects essential data from theft. To ensure that data is transmitted and stored corruption-free, both units use ECC RAM.

Along with the 75% faster (but cooler running) processor, newly incorporated multimedia ports (HDMI and VGA), and the inclusion of USB 3.0 ports, the new 7-bay N7710-G and 8-bay N8810U-G also bring the benefits of the Thecus App Center to SMB businesses. With their power and connectivity, both units allow multiple users to enjoy a growing list of over 90 official and third-party applications. The N7710-G and N8810U-G will be available at selected retail stores and distributors in mid-March for the suggested retail prices of $1,199.00 and $1,999.00, respectively.
