August 17, 2009 -- Electrorack has released its CoolCirc-IT, billed as "a smart, pressure-controlled, high-density heat containment system that dynamically adjusts airflow to match the load in each enclosure."
"With CoolCirc-IT, our clients now have the ability to determine the cooling capacity at the rack level and make informed decisions about equipment moves, adds or changes," explains Todd Schneider, Electrorack's director of marketing. "CoolCirc-IT maintains a 'zero-pressure' environment inside the rack, which is a critical element to prevent overtaxing of server fans and leakage of hot air into the room often found with passive cooling solutions. And because CoolCirc-IT mounts on top of each individual enclosure, it doesn't consume floor space, and is suitable for deployment in raised-floor or slab environments."
According to the company, CoolCirc-IT prevents hot exhaust and cold supply air from mixing, making the entire room a cold-air delivery zone and eliminating the need to constantly move floor tiles based on rack loads. Each fully-redundant system utilizes dual-power inputs and two hot-swappable fan modules that easily scale up to 30kW. The modules are equipped with digital displays and LED indicator lights to provide system status and real-time airflow capacity right at the rack.
"Energy reduction is achieved in multiple areas," adds Schneider. "Aggregated data provided from each unit allow variable speed CRAC unit fans to only supply the amount of air required to cool the load, preventing over-provisioning. Users can then raise supply air temps to upper ASHRAE limits, which allows chilled water temps to be raised while increasing the ability to utilize free cooling. When properly deployed, CoolCirc-IT can help users achieve up to 100% utilization of their cooling infrastructure."
A networking module is included with every system to provide IP access. The embedded software includes a graphical user interface to easily monitor cooling capacity, temperature, humidity and service life of each fan module. User-defined SNMP traps and alarm thresholds trigger email alerts when levels fall outside of the desired parameters.
Schneider concludes, "When you consider that CoolCirc-IT can communicate with most existing facility management software and can be retrofitted to most existing installations, the value of intelligent, rack-level cooling becomes even more clear."
