Capgemini will next month be opening what it calls the "world's greenest" data center in Swindon, UK. Dubbed Merlin, the 33,000-square-foot facility boasts a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio of 1.08, meaning it uses much less than half as much energy per square foot as the industry average PUE of about 2.5. The data center achieves its energy efficiency through a combination of free outside-air cooling and energy-efficient evaporative cooling.
