One of the largest offerings of stainless steel flex conduit, fittings and connectors is now available from Atkore Inc. (Harvey, IL) and sold under the vendor's Calbrite brand.
Because stainless steel absorbs motion and vibration, it’s often considered ideal protection for wires and cables in corrosive environments, including construction of roads and bridges, petrochemical operations and food and pharmaceutical processing.
For high performance in extreme environments across industries, the company announced its Calbrite products are available in five types of stainless steel flexible conduits for a wide range of applications, including the following options:
- Bare Flex – Features “brite” finish for increased corrosion resistance and aesthetics and compatible with Calbrite stainless steel flex connectors. Ideal for roads and bridges, machinery and OEMs.
- Gray PVC Coated Flex – The PVC coated jacket provides greater resistance to a wide range of corrosion, oils, greases and contaminants. Performs in temperatures from 0°F to 275°F and is NEMA 4X approved for damp locations when used with Calbrite Flex Connectors. Applications: chemical processing, pharmaceutical processing and petrochemical operations.
- Clear PVC Coated Flex – The clear PVC coated jacket allows for greater resistance to a wide range of corrosion, oils, greases and contaminants, while allowing visibility of the stainless core in corrosive environments, increasing aesthetics. Performs in temperatures from 0°F to 275°F and is NEMA 4X approved for damp locations when used with Calbrite Flex Connectors. Manufactured in 25-foot coils. Applications: food processing, machinery and OEMs.
- Low-Smoke Zero Halogen Liquid Tight Metallic – Typically used for outdoor applications requiring liquid tight performance. Helically wound, this conduit is oil resistant, with black LFH coating, and is highly flame retardant with low smoke toxicity and is self-extinguishing. Halogen, sulphur and phosphorous free. Performs in temperatures -25°C to +90°C. This conduit is IP66, IP67 IP68 (5 Bar) and IP69 approved. Applications: tunnels, roads and bridges, machinery and OEMs, rail and marine.
- Hygienic Liquid Tight Metallic – Ideal for applications requiring both washdown and wide temperature range. Helically wound, this conduit is oil resistant, with blue hygienic PVC coating. Applications: food processing, chemical processing, medical.
For their part, the highly compatible, damage resistant, easy-to-install flexible fittings and conductors in the Calbrite line include:
- Hazardous Location Flex Fittings – This compression fitting has a flameproof barrier gland with an operating temperature range of -60°C to +85°C. Suitable for use with all Flex Liquid Tight conduits, this fitting is corrosion resistant, oil resistant and comprised of body, nut, insert, pot, cap, nylon compression seal and compound barrier. The insert is manufactured in machined nickel-plated brass to provide ease in assembly and re-use. Fittings are IP66, IP67 IP68 and IP69 approved.
- Hygienic Flex Fittings – This compression fitting has a flameproof barrier gland and is suitable for use with all Flex Liquid Tight conduits. Corrosion resistant, oil resistant and comprised of body, nut, insert, pot, cap, nylon compression seal and compound barrier. The insert is manufactured in machined nickel-plated brass to facilitate ease of assembly and re-use. Applications: food processing facilities, distilleries, pharmaceuticals.
- FCR Flex to Rigid Connectors – These connectors are used to connect stainless flexible conduit to rigid conduit and are approved for damp locations when used with Calbrite’s PVC and Clear Coated Flex Conduit.
- Flex Straight, 90º and 45º Connectors – Used to connect stainless flexible conduit to other fittings, boxes and enclosures. Approved for damp locations when used with Calbrite’s PVC and Clear Coated Flex Conduit. Applications: corrosive and damp environments.
