Klein Tools intros versatile TDR Cable Length Meter

The TDR Cable Length Meter (Cat. No. 501-915) from Klein Tools measures the length of electrical, data, two-wire and Romex cables up to 3,000-ft (914 m).

Klein Tools has this month introduced its new TDR Cable Length Meter, a tester that provides accurate cable length measurements for a wide variety of cable types.

The TDR Cable Length Meter (Cat. No. 501-915) from Klein Tools measures the length of electrical, data, two-wire and Romex cables up to 3,000-ft (914 m).

The unit's TDR technology measures distance-to-fault, open or shot, on terminated or unterminated cable.

Programmed with Velocity of Propagation (VoP) values for Coax, Data, Romex and other multiwire cables for accurate length measurement within +/-(2% +3’) accuracy, the meter stores custom cable VoP values for consistently accurate results and time savings.

Employing a simple interface with full color, interactive LCD screen, the TDR Cable Length Meter tones unenergized, open-ended wires for wire tracing (analog tracing probe required; Klein Tools Cat. No. VDV500-123, sold separately, is recommended).

The tool includes a padded carrying case and leads. Coax-BNC or alligator clips enable a quick and easy connection to test most cable types. An RJ45 jack enables accurate length measurement of terminated data cables. Measurements can be switched between metric and imperial units.

Elvin Bautista, product manager at Klein Tools, remarked:

“Klein Tools’ new TDR Cable Length Meter gives trade professionals a wide range of measuring options in one simple device. It measures cable length, calibrates Velocity of Propagation (VoP) values, finds distance to faults in cables, and provides built-in tone generation for cable tracing. All of these features plus its affordable price point make it an ideal tool for professionals across several different trades.”
