With this recognition, Tempo can offer official FOA certifications, elevating fiber-technician training.

Tempo Communications recently announced the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) has designated Tempo as an Approved School. This accreditation allows Tempo to offer official FOA certification. When announcing this recognition, Tempo said it enables them to “empower the next generation of fiber technicians.

“In response to the burgeoning demand for skilled fiber professionals to enhance our nation’s broadband infrastructure, Tempo is committed to delivering high-quality training,” the company continued. “The FOA Program features in-person, hands-on courses that utilize Tempo’s industry-leading tools and test instruments, ensuring that participants gain practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge.”

The FOA is widely recognized for its rigorous standards and comprehensive curriculum, which equip technicians with the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to excel in the field, Tempo added. “Tempo is proud to integrate FOA content into its educational offerings, reinforcing its commitment to excellence in fiber optics training,” it said.

“We are excited to play a pivotal role in training the skilled workforce necessary for building the broadband infrastructure of the future,” said Oleg Fishel, vice president of Tempo. “By offering FOA certifications, we are not only enhancing our training programs but also contributing to the industry’s growth and sustainability.”

The company added that with this new initiative, it aims to ensure qualified tradespeople are prepared to tackle the myriad challenges involved in expanding and improving fiber-optic networks.

In September, Tempo’s Fiber Trainer (pictured) earned a platinum level award in Cabling Installation & Maintenance’s 2024 Cabling Innovators Awards program. Fiber Trainer is an advanced solution custom-designed to revolutionize the training landscape for technicians entering fiber optics. Recognizing the need for immersive, technology-driven training in fiber, Tempo meticulously crafted the Fiber Trainer to empower technicians with hands-on experience. At the core of the system lies a compact, powerful platform designed to simulate real-world scenarios in fiber-optic installation, testing, and maintenance. The Fiber Trainer isn’t just a tool, but rather a gateway to a dynamic learning experience, offering a comprehensive suite of features to enhance skill development and proficiency in fiber optics.

The Fiber Trainer’s features include simulated loss events (to experience realistic challenges), a 1-kilometer fiber link (mimicking real-world scenarios including midway faults for hands-on OTDR operation), fusion splicing exercises (including two fiber spools and integrated connectors to facilitate seamless loss testing), and comprehensive training modules (covering connector inspection and cleaning, fault identification using a VFL, cleaving and splicing techniques, loss measurement, and advanced OTDR use).

When introducing Fiber Trainer, Tempo emphasized the offering is not strictly about training, but rather is intended to elevate the learner experience, foster expertise, and prepare technicians for the challenges of modern networks.
