BICSI is seeking contestants for its annual Cabling Skills Challenge, which will be held during the BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, FL in early February. The winner of the Challenge will be crowned the 2025 Installer of the Year and will win a $5,000 prize. All participants will receive a complimentary registration to the conference.
“BICSI-certified installers and technicians are eligible to apply for this exciting competition—a great opportunity to display your skills, boost your resume, and connect with other ICT professionals,” BICSI said recently, while reminding ICT professionals of the contest and its eligibility requirements.
The Winter Conference and Exhibition will take place February 2-6 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. The Cabling Skills Challenge will be held February 3-5, and the winner crowned as part of BICSI’s Annual Awards Banquet the evening of February 5.
The Challenge comprises the following 8 events, which are described in more detail in the application to participate.
- Structured cabling system installation
- Copper cable terminations/firestopping/grounding and bonding
- Fusion and mechanical splicing
- Cable assembly
- Cable troubleshooting/OTDR troubleshooting
- Fiber link testing
- Professionalism/orientation
- Competency exam
BICSI pointed out that slots in the competition are limited, and completed applications will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no fee to compete and, as mentioned previously, each competitor will receive a complimentary conference registration.

As has been the case for several years, the BICSI Cares Women in BICSI Cabling Skills Challenge Grant will provide financial support to a female installer or technician who is accepted to compete in the 2025 Challenge. The grant covers direct travel costs associated with participation in the contest. Applying for this grant is a separate process from applying to compete in the Cabling Skills Challenge.
