As part of the agenda for its 2025 Winter Conference, BICSI will offer attendees an opportunity to get a full-day, behind-the-scenes look at the information and communications technology (ICT) and other systems at work in Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C. This EduTour, taking place Monday, February 3, is available to conference attendees as a separate, standalone learning opportunity. Participants who are BICSI credential holders will earn 5 continuing education credits (CEC) toward credential renewal.
“Orlando International Airport’s South Terminal Complex is the first fully integrated, multi-modal airport terminal in the U.S. for rail-air-ground transportation,” BICSI explains in its description of this educational opportunity. “Terminal C opened to passengers in September 2022 as one of the first LEED v4 certified airport campuses in the world, with a design that provides 25% energy cost-savings over the latest ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standard. The 1.3-million-square-foot terminal incorporates many additional first for U.S. airports: technologies such as 100% total virtual ramp control; 100% advanced automated screening lanes; 100% facial recognition ‘e-gates”; a ‘bags-first’ design and an RFID-technology-based 100-percent-trackable baggage system.”
BICSI further explains that while some of the technology featured on this EduTour focuses solely on the airport sector of the transportation market—such as virtual ramp control, visual docking and guidance systems, and baggage handling systems-other systems and features of the tour are applicable across many markets. Those markets include military, transportation, education, healthcare, large industrial and essentially any other large and/or multi-building campus type deployments. Among the systems within Terminal C are ANSI-standard telecommunications infrastructure, passive optical networks, and VESDA aspirating smoke detection.
The EduTour fee includes transportation between the Gaylor Palms Convention Center and Orlando International Airport, as well as lunch. Photography will be allowed in some areas but prohibited in others.
