Bump Cap Offers Head Protection on the Jobsite

Feb. 27, 2025
Milwaukee Tool’s Bump Cap looks like a baseball cap as opposed to a hardhat and is optimized for working in confined spaces.

Milwaukee Tool is introducing two head-protection products for the jobsite—a bump cap and a universal insert that fits into an existing cap. Milwaukee says the devices “offer enhanced head protection while maintaining a stylish, baseball cap-like appearance.”

The cap and insert are designed for environments where hardhats or helmets are not required, but users nonetheless need head protection from user-generated impacts that could result in bumps, abrasions, and punctures.

“Through field research alongside users, we identified feedback surrounding unmet safety needs for service professionals,” said Austin Dorman, Milwaukee Tool senior product manager. “While professionals want to remain safety-focused, many do not work in an environment where typical hardhats are required. Our Bump Caps are optimized for working in confined spaces where professionals run the risk of bumping their head on static objects such as pipes, tabletops, nails, machinery, and other fixed structures.”

The Black Mesh Bump Cap “delivers a premium option for professionals who need the best side protection with a more-comfortable fit,” the company said when announcing the new equipment. “This Snapback Black Mesh Bump Cap features a larger foam liner for more side protection, while the comfortable foam provides top protection from minor head injuries like bumps and scrapes when working in tight spaces. Intended to keep users’ heads cool while working, this cap is designed with a lightweight mesh material and breathable fitted shell with ventilation holes.”

The Bump Cap Universal insert “provides professionals with a flexible insert solution, delivering the best top and side protection in the user’s preferred cap,” Milwaukee added. “The Universal Cap Insert features a foam liner for best top and side protection, while the breathable fitted shell has ventilation holes to help keep the user’s head cool while working. This insert provides puncture and abrasion protection while its unique shell design delivers a better fit and is designed to be compatible with traditional caps.”

The Universal Insert will be available beginning in March 2025. The MSRP is $14.97. The Black Mesh Bump Cap will be available beginning in May 2025. Its MSRP is $34.97.
