Cabling-component manufacturer Leviton Telcom (Bothell, WA) has updated its popular wiring guide with a third edition entitled, Wiring Strategies for Voice and Data Systems. Released late last year, the guide covers telecommunications wiring standards for both residential and commercial applications. Divided into four chapters, the volume includes an overview of telecommunications standards, followed by sections on the eia/tia-570 residential and light-commercial wiring standard, the tia/eia-568a commercial wiring standard, and fiber- optic installations. Each of the latter three sections concludes with special testing coverage. Appendixes of technical information conclude the 90-page, large-format, illustrated paperback.
"It has been three years since Installation Strategies for Long Term Cabling Systems Success--as the last edition of the book was called--has been updated, and the changes that have been incorporated provide both the novice and seasoned installer with information that is crucial to this industry," says DeWayne Anderson, marketing manager for Leviton Telcom. "Standards are evolving for residential systems, and it`s important that telecom installers and specifiers keep as up-to-date as possible on what`s required of them. This new edition provides an easy-to-understand guideline to these standards."
The volume also contains cable routing dos and don`ts, wiring diagrams for many different residential scenarios, testing, and troubleshooting procedures for fiber-optic and copper installations, and lists of references and organizations.
Wiring Strategies for Voice and Data Systems has some company information, but it is definitely not just a product catalog with applications and technical information at the back, such as many component manufacturers offer. It is first and foremost a standards-compliant wiring guide for communications cabling installers. With a cover price of $10, it is free to Leviton Telcom customers and may be ordered by calling (800) 922-6229.
