Corning Cable Systems announces new fusion splicer

March 20, 2002
March 13, 2002--The VISION-OEM is based on the same technology that's in the manufacturer's M90 splicer.

Corning Cable Systems (www.corningcablesystems.com) has announced its VISION-OEM fusion splicer, designed for industrial optical fiber and photonic manufacturing applications.

The splicer is designed for splicing all common singlemode and multimode silica glass as well as specialty fibers like erbium-doped. Typical VISION splice losses are less than 0.02 dB for identical standard singlemode fibers and less than 0.01 dB for multimode fibers.

The VISION-OEM fusion splicer was specifically developed to address the unique splicing needs of industrial optics and optical contract manufacturing environments.

Based on the same design as Corning Cable Systems' M90 fusion splicer, the VISION-OEM fusion splicer is designed to ensure reliable operation even in less-than-perfect conditions. The design features the core-detection system, which yields low losses from a high-contrast fiber core image, resulting in high precision core-to-core alignment. Online observation of the whole splice process occurs, even during fusion, and the automatic fusion time cSontrol stops the fusion arc at the optimum time.

After splicing, the VISION splicer's Virtual Light Injection and Detection system evaluates the splice and calculates loss by simulating the splice, while considering all splice loss mechanisms.

Corning Cable Systems, based in Hickory, NC, is a manufacturer of optical fiber and copper telecommunications system solutions for voice, data and video network applications.
