Fluke, Greyfox team up for training effort

Nov. 12, 2003
Nov. 12, 2003 - Testing equipment manufacturer provides Greyfox program with cable installation and network testing tools.

Fluke Networks and Greyfox Systems have partnered to bring more training resources to the growing number of commercial installers serving the residential market.

Fluke Networks is supplying cable installation and network testing tools to the new Greyfox Residential Installer Certification Program. The training program, which was unveiled earlier this year, covers residential structured wiring components, installation tools and techniques as well as standards compliance requirements.

"As the residential networking industry continues to mature and tech-savvy homeowners expect more performance from their home cabling infrastructure, cable installation practices and verification tools become increasingly important to verify quality components and workmanship," says Amy Hahne, director of marketing for Greyfox Systems. "By having the latest verification test tools as part of our curriculum, we are able to prove to our students, in the same way they will prove to their customers, that quality components and workmanship have a direct impact on network performance."

The Greyfox Residential Installer Certification Program is designed to provide students with the necessary tools and expertise to ensure the highest quality installations. The program teaches installers how to install and test all UTP and COAX cable runs to the ANSI/EIA/TIA570B draft standard using verification tools supplied by Fluke Networks. Installers follow a documentation process that assures the quality and optimal performance of the residential network and confirms that all systems meet warranty specifications.

The program also provides qualified consumer and builder referrals and ongoing technical support to installers after training.

"Residential networks are rapidly becoming more complicated and providing more value to homeowners," says David McLean, verification tools marketing manager for Fluke Networks. "Greyfox and Fluke Networks realized that this greater sophistication required more emphasis on training installers to confirm the quality of the installation through verification testing to standards."

Fluke Networks, based in Everett, WA, manufactures testing and monitoring devices. Greyfox Systems, based in Pittsburgh, PA, manufactures structured wiring hubs. For more information visit www.flukenetworks.com or www.greyfox.com.
