The Telecommunications Industry Association has applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the Commercial Spectrum Enhancement Act, H.R. 1320.
The TIA argues that the act, which the House passed by a vote of 408-10, will open up the door for future wireless products
"This effort reveals a tremendous commitment on the part of Congress and the Bush Administration to ensuring that America doesn't fall behind in the global harmonization of spectrum bands," says TIA President Matthew Flanigan
Flanigan says utilizing the proceeds from spectrum auctions to finance the relocation of incumbent federal entities to comparable spectrum bands is of paramount importance to the future use of the radio spectrum. Such funding will provide greater certainty in the auction process, accelerate the introduction of new services and ensure the ability of federal entities to continue to achieve mission success, he says.
"This bill helps to make more spectrum available for commercial use, which greatly facilitates the introduction of innovative wireless product offerings," Flanigan continues. "We commend the House members for supporting this forward-looking act and urge the Senate to quickly act on this legislation."
