More than 140 cyclists participated in The Siemon Company's "Poker Run" motorcycle rally.
The ride took place on Sunday, July 6. The event was sponsored by the Siemon Company. More than 125 motorcycles were driven in the event, which began in the Siemon Company parking lot in Watertown, CT.
The cyclists road more than 62 miles to raise money for the Water-Oak Youth Center.
The massive assembly of Harley Davidsons, Hondas, BMWs, Ducatis and at least one motorcycle with a sidecar roared down the street into the Litchfield County. The riders collected a card at each of four stops along the way and a final card upon returning, and prizes were given for the top poker hands
"We are very happy to be out here today on this beautiful day, to ride these extraordinary machines for such a worthy cause," said Carl Siemon, president of the company and the "Leader of the Pack" for the charity ride. "The Siemon Company has always believed in giving back to the community. I'm happy to announce that in addition to the thousands of dollars we raised in registration and donations for this event, Siemon will be
matching that amount 100%."
Carrie Mahoney, who managed the event, said the ride is a celebration of the company's 100th anniversary.
"2003 marks 100 years in business for Siemon and we are proud to be able to give back a little bit to the community that has been such a large part of our existence," said Mahoney.
In honor of the anniversary, the town of Watertown also re-named the road that runs throughout the Siemon Company campus from Princeton Road to Siemon Company Drive.
