On Monday, February 24 and Tuesday, February 25, the AMP Netconnect unit of Tyco Electronics (www.ampnetconnect.com) will host a one-hour online seminar covering intelligent networking solutions. Hosted by Tony Beam, director of business development for AMP Netconnect, the session will report the results of a roundtable discussion held January 29, during which networking experts debated major issues facing IT executives and network managers today, as well as related IT-industry issues and trends. The seminar will also include information on the AMPTRAC Connectivity Management System and the system's capabilities.
The February 24 seminar will be held at 11:00 AM EST; the February 25 seminar will be held at 3:00 PM EST. More information, and the opportunity to sign up for the Web seminar, is available at www.ampnetconnect.com/webseminars.
The roundtable discussion, which included an industry analyst, a cabling contractor, a systems integrator and an end-user, was held in Washington D.C. during the ComNet exhibition and conference. While at ComNet, AMP Netconnect also took the opportunity to introduce new and updated products.
The LAN electronics product line consists of a range of Ethernet media converters and switches. The media converter family includes 10/100-Mbit/sec Fast Ethernet and 10/100/1000-Mbit/sec Gigabit Ethernet models, and offers SC, ST, and MT-RJ fiber interfaces. The switch family is available in a variety of models, with various port sizes and options starting with five-port unmanaged switches and going up to 24-port managed copper switches with optional twin gigabit copper or fiber uplink ports.
Upgrades to the AMPTRAC Connectivity Management System include integrated modules that use a solid sensor contact and IDC punchdown to support Category 5e, Category 6, and MT-RJ fiber products in the same physical footprint and installation procedures. "This modularity greatly simplifies design, planning, installation, maintenance, and system upgrades," AMP Netconnect says in an announcement of the system upgrade. AMPTRAC now also support fiber "plug-and-play" systems using MPO multifiber trunking interconnections combined with the MT-RJ and SC interfaces.
Angled fiber and copper patch panels, which are AMPTRAC-compatible, improve cable management, can eliminate horizontal managers, and save space and cost. The modular inserts provide flexibility, easy installation, and improved maintenance and repair, AMP Netconnect adds.
The Mini RJ-21 Category 5e Cabling System provides a plug-and-play, high-density solution, applicable to network electronics interfaces, data centers, SANs, or zone-cabling environments for 10/100 and other 2-pair dedicated applications or 4-pair Gigabit Ethernet with AMPTRAC compatibility. The Riverstone Networks ES 10170 Layer 3 Aggregation switch, which demonstrates the benefits of dense Ethernet aggregation using the high-density Mini RJ-21 interface, was on display at the AMP Netconnect booth at ComNet.
The Category 6 110Xconnect incorporates a new design for improving pair isolation and maintains the form factor of the 110Xconnect system. An advanced plating and assembly process minimizes near-end crosstalk and improves return loss in the same outline as standard 110XC systems.
